We welcomed Paul, Jen, and Brenda tonight, and we were happy to see Jordan and Taylor return. We painted a from a photo that I took on Wilkerson Pass looking down on south Park County in Colorado. We tried to capture the sense of the incoming storm with it's heavy misty clouds. We also worked hard to get the value and color intensity of the distant mountains to read correctly. Adding the groupings of trees at the foreground differed with every painting. The photo showed a great dark mass of trees - too much! The key was to add them in a way that balanced the rest of the painting. Always remember that it is your decision how to edit your image. Just because something exists in front of your eyes doesn't mean that it belongs in your painting!
Good job, everyone. I really enjoyed this one. I hope you all did, too.
