Roses are red, grapes are green.

Ricki was said it so well tonight. She said she always dreads still life paintings, but in the end she learns so much from them. So true!! Still life painting teaches us how to observe form and light and color. It teaches us so much about composition. It teaches us to edit, to move, to rearrange, to think, to discover, to compare, to see light and form and color, all in an intimate arrangement of concrete forms. Still life may initially strike you as a banal exercise, but think about the power you have with still life. It can be comprised of anything you want. Any color, form, light. Embrace the still life, and it will teach you the secrets of the universe...maybe.
