Seafoam subtleties ...

What a challenging painting, but what a great learning experience! Everyone did a phenomenal job tackling so much in one painting. Time to go look at more photos of waves, girls! Study your paintings and the photos and understand the successful aspects of your paintings as well as where there is room for improvement. You should ALL be proud of what you accomplished tonight!

 

Here is the woodcut I was telling Ricki about. This is a beautfiul stylized Japanese woodblock print called Great Wave off Kanagawa by the artist Hokusai. It is part of his Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series. Definitely worth a look. 

  

Here is a lovely painting of a crashing wave, by Matt Hedges, that has a lot of the elements we were dealing with. What makes it so successful? Which elements do you find in your own painting? Which elements would help your painting. Be specific. Love it? He sells prints! Check out his website. Waves are all he does! Very nice. (Zoom in on the images and see how he creates the illusion)
