Grumbacher offers a beginner kit (located in the brush aisle on the bottom shelf opposite the brushes) that will provide enough paint for many classes. The kit contains the following:

In addition to the kit, you will need:
     Paper Towels
Water container(s) - I prefer something two sided like the Artist's Loft BrushWasher
Palette - The bigger the better. I use an 11x14" piece of glass taped to a piece of foamcore. You can scrape it clean as you work. Paper plates will work, but bring a quantity. As your paint dries on the plate, you'll need a new one.  There are also palettes that use palette paper. When your paper is sullied, you remove it and use the next one. You can also use the plastic palettes located in the brush aisle. However, they are very difficult to keep clean during your painting session and nearly impossible to clean once the paint is dry. A good soak overnight will sometimes return them to white, but it usually takes a bit of elbow grease. Not something I want to tackle every time I paint!

If you work like I do, you'll want a smock or apron or other piece of protective gear! Or, just wear something old. You'll likely see me in the same clothing over and over, as I have a small selection of things that I have sacrificed to the painting gods.
